This lesson is a great example of a typical day in one of our classes! This specific recording comes from one of our Self-Paced courses where there are no live students present (for student privacy), however, the flow of the class is essentially the same. When students are present, we are much more directly engaged with them as opposed to simply lecturing the entire time. This example lesson highlights our method of teaching through material in a step by step process that is easy for students to follow along with, study, and learn. In every class- we implement the I do, We do, You do approach to learning. First, I do and teach the lesson/steps. Then, We hold hands as we work through two problems together. Third, Your Turn is usually a set of 3 problems they do on their own (with the teacher present to answer any questions they have as they try)- Likely the most important step in the learning process- this gives students a chance to attempt the skill and discover pieces of the process they still do not fully grasp or understand- which then encourages them to ask for help and receive corrective measures from their last best point of understanding. Lastly, we check through the 3 Your Turn example problems together and clear up any questions/misunderstandings, and they are off to doing a practice sheet on their own. Students are always given Notes & Worksheets via PDF at the beginning of every week so that families can print materials out at home in an economical manner. They are given everything they need for that week up front.
